Top 7 Reasons to Live in Bryan-College Station, Texas

January 30, 2017 by Myke Leatham

Bryan-College Station is the area that incorporates both cities of Bryan and College Station in the region called Brazos Valley. According to the 2010 census, Bryan-College Station is home to over 250,000 residents.

That’s a lot of different types of people living in one place. It’s safe to assume that these people have a wide range of interests that are being satisfied by the businesses and attractions in this metropolitan area.

That means that there’s something there for you too.

Here are the top 7 reasons to live in Bryan-College Station, Texas:

1. The art scene in Bryan-College Station, Texas is picturesque

Benz Gallery of Floral Art is a unique art gallery that displays flowers – live ones, preserved ones, or ready-made sculptures in the shape of flowers. Visit this gallery to experience a one-of-a-kind specialized exhibition.

Brazos Glassworks Studio is a glass-blowing studio located in Downtown Bryan, Texas. Less of a gallery and more of a specialty shop, you can visit Brazos Glassworks Studio if you’re hoping to purchase a unique work of glass art to decorate your own home with it.

Forsyth Galleries at TAMU include exhibits that feature English Cameo Glass and over 100 paintings completed by famous American artists, such as Homer, Remington and Russell.

The J. Wayne Stark Galleries at TAMU are dedicated to showcasing artwork, such as drawings, paintings, photographs and prints, done by American artists. At the J. Wayne Stark Galleries, you’ll exclusively find work completed in the 19th and 20th centuries by artists, such as Peggy Bacon, Dorothy Hood and Laura Gilpin.

2. The shows in Bryan-College Station, Texas are exciting

The Grand Stafford Theatre, located in Downtown Bryan, Texas, is the concert hall that has housed showings for artists including Lyle Lovett and No Doubt. Check the upcoming shows to see if one of your favorite artists will be gracing the stage.

The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra is located in College Station. Here you can catch a classical concert and experience a more traditional display of music.

At the Brazos Valley T.R.O.U.P.E. (Texas Repertory of Unique Performing Arts and Entertainment) in Bryan, you can attend an improv show, a musical, a revue or a concert. It’s an inexpensive way to spend a weekend night if you’re looking for an alternative to going to the movies.

The StageCenter Community Theatre, residing in Bryan, Texas, is a more traditional theatre in terms of the content displayed on its stages: plays, musicals and concerts. StageCenter Community Theatre’s auditions are open to the public, so you might find yourself doing more than just watching the next play. Anything could happen.

3. The drinks in Bryan-College Station, Texas hit the spot

If you’re trying to go out in style, check out 12 Northgate. It has a roof-top bar and a lounge on the ground floor that offers bottle service.

Messina Hof, Perrine and Benjamin Knox Gallery and Wine Depot are all wineries in College Station. If you want to savor your drink and enjoy an afternoon with friends, these are the kinds of places you should visit.

If drinking a nice, cold beer is more your style, check out the New Republic Brewing, which is a craft beer brewery located in Downtown College Station. While you’re sipping a brew, be sure to peruse the famous taproom.

Some other noteworthy locations that can wet your whistle are Hurricane Harry’s, The Corner Bar and Rooftop Grill and The Tap.

4. The parks in Bryan-College Station, Texas are full of fresh air

Visiting one of the parks in Bryan-College Station is a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Research Park is home to tall, leafy trees that surround a small, mirror-like pond. Take a peaceful stroll down one of the trails and make a quick stop to feed the ducks.

Anderson Park is another park sited in College Station that offers a lot in the way of recreation. This park offers a playground for kids, two basketball courts and five, different sized soccer fields.

Bee Creek Park is one of the larger parks in College Station at 26.5 acres. At Bee Creek, you can swim in the 50-meter swimming pool, hang out in the separate wading pool, play tennis on of the four lighted courts, hit some softballs on one of the two lighted fields, spike some volleyballs on the sand court, enjoy a picnic or walk around the 17-acre arboretum.

5. The recreational activities in Bryan-College Station, Texas are extra fun

Texas World Speedway is just like your average go-kart racing track – except 8.7 million times better. Not only can you race around the track in a real car, but you can also take race car driver classes so you can learn to drive even faster.

If you’re looking for more of a challenge, you might try your hand at the Escape Room BCS or Padlock Escape Games: College Station. Work with a team to free yourself from a faux-hostage situation and bask in your victory.

If you want to try your hand at painting while sipping some wine, you can plan your next date night at the increasingly popular Pinot’s Palette or Painting with a Twist. Bring your own adult beverage and get guided through step-by-step instructions for simple paintings you can take home and show off to all your friends.

The Lone Star Trapeze Academy is a school, of sorts, located in Bryan, Texas that can teach you the art of the flying trapeze. Lone Star Trapeze Academy is open seven days a week and has lessons for all ages and all levels of experience. The launch platform rests at 25 feet in the air. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity.

For some more traditional fun, in the way of arcade games, bowling and laser tag, you should check out Grand Station Entertainment and Aggieland War Games.
